About Us

Who Am I?

I’m Nicola, a Registered Nurse with over 20 years of experience in neonatal, paediatric and emergency nursing. I’ve walked alongside families during some of their most vulnerable moments – in emergency departments, neonatal units and children’s wards, as well as working in outback remote communities in the Northern Territory.

I remember bringing my first baby home from the hospital. We put the carrier down, looked at this teeny tiny sleeping baby, looked at each other, and asked “Now what?!”. Then we had to work it out alone.

In my 15 years as an emergency nurse, I saw anxious parents come through triage for concerns which could have been addressed if they had the right information and support.

What I see is a gap: families leaving hospital with a newborn, a short discharge conversation, and very little ongoing support, beyond the scheduled Maternal and Child Health Nurse visit. At the same time, new parents are bombarded with conflicting advice from books, social media and well meaning friends.

Baby We’re Home was created to bridge that gap – offering safe, evidence‑based guidance and emotional reassurance once you’re home with your baby (and even before they arrive).

Clinical Expertise and Lived Experience:

  • Registered Nurse (20+ years)

  • Emergency, paediatric and special care nursing background

  • Clinical Nurse Educator (teaching registered nurses from student to experienced) in hospital settings

  • Bachelor of Nursing

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Emergency Nursing

  • Master’s Degree in Clinical Education

  • Happily married for 15 years with two kids.

This blend of clinical training and lived experience means I can explain complex information in a clear, calm way and help you apply it in your real life – not in an idealised textbook version of parenthood.

My Approach

  • Evidence‑based and safety‑focused – grounded in current guidelines and research.

  • Non‑judgemental – there is no one “right” way parent your baby.

  • Collaborative – we make decisions together; you remain the expert on your baby.

  • Trauma‑informed and neurodiversity‑affirming – sensitive to your history, needs and capacity.

  • LGBTQI+ Friendly - We are proud to serve and welcome everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Written review by Vicent, new father who attended a ReadytoDad (Now known as Postnatal Newborn Preparation Workshop)

Vicent, May 2026 -

Nicola's ReadytoDad class was one of the most useful things I did to prepare for our child's birth. Prior to the workshop, she took the time to understand my situation, level of preparation and specific needs, which she then made sure to address during the in-person class. She anticipated most of my questions and had so many practical suggestions that I had not thought of as a first time father.

The open format of the workshop offered a humorous, non-judgemental 'no-wrong-questions' space for us to explore the best ways to support our partners and children during these intense, stressful first days. I felt very comfortable discussing my worries and relieved to see how common it is to doubt and have questions.

The boot camp went over the 101 activities of newborn and mother support, then practiced how to use a child carrier, set up an infant seat, fold and unfold a pram. Rather than providing a standard tutorial, Nicola took the time to work things through with us to find a solution that worked for each of us.

I left the workshop feeling prepared and confident to support my child and partner during our birth experience, and then I was able to follow up with my own questions and reflection as they arise in the following weeks. I would definitely recommend the ReadytoDad boot camp to any new and non-new dads out there.
